Reflective Journal #2 The Tuesday of this week we attended a Screening & Discussion series lecture with a guest lecturer in talking to us about film festivals, how they work, how to enter, how to increase chances, etc... ( I'll upload my notes to a folder ). On Wednesday we again met with Tal. In the morning the class presented the basis of their ideas and the first few bits of work they'd done towards their scripts, and we gave them feedback as a class. In the afternoon we watched "Catch me if you can" a 2002 Steven Spielberg film with a basis of a cat and mouse chase between a check fraudster (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and a FBI fraud investigator (Tom Hanks). This film was very intriguing in terms of how it twists the roles of protagonist and antagonist in the narrative. Hanks' character plays the morally righteous character that in real life would be seen as the protagonist. However in the film his role is antagonist to DiCaprio's character the ...

Reflective Journal #1 On Wednesday 29th November we met with Dan as a class so he could introduce us to the story unit and what we would be doing. At the end of the session Dan tasked us with going out and observing two random people: One man & One woman, and using their mannerisms, etc.. to create characters and character profiles. At first I was intrigues by this task and thought it would be relatively easy to complete (I'm sure it was for most of the group). I sat down in a corner of the place with my notebook, phone and a cup of tea. However I was unable to observe anyone due to a growing sense of anxiety/dread/panic. Unfortunately a few weeks previously I had one of the worst...

Brief: Go for a walk and make several Iterations of a map, starting with noting landmarks along the path and finishing with a functional map. Iteration 1: Instead of writing down landmarks I took photos of several prominent Shops/locations on the route I took. Iteration 2: During the session I started to sketch a very rough first draft in my notebook from memory (without looking at the photos). I decided to use a simple abbreviated key for the map early on (e.g. SG for St. Georges Building, PH for Playhouse Bar). I found it challenging to get the scale of the buildings and roads correct. Iteration 3. For my next draft I switched to A4 paper to try and fit everything on a single page, as the route I walked was relatively short and I did not think it would require a larger size. I kept to the same abbreviation key as before although I did try adding symbols in for places as well (e.g. Cocktail Glass for Bar) in case I wanted to use those e...
